Ivy Thomas, DVM
Dr. Ivy Thomas originates from Mississippi and moved to Southern California after graduation for her undergraduate studies at San Diego State University. She graduated from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2007. Prior to veterinary school, Dr. Thomas was a registered veterinary technician at a small animal referral and exotics practice for almost 6 years. In veterinary school, she completed clinical externships at Louisville Zoo, Henry Doorly Zoo in Nebraska, Wildlife Safari in Oregon, and the Phoenix Zoo. Upon graduation she completed a small animal/wildlife medicine and surgery internship at Sonora Veterinary Specialist where she stayed on for a short time as one of their emergency clinicians before moving on to complete an exotic medicine and surgery internship at Avian & Exotic Animal Clinic of Arizona. Since then, Dr. Thomas has provided both a small animal and exotics services around the valley In addition, she has volunteered her time providing medical services throughout the years to Southwest Wildlife, Phoenix Herpetological Society, several local shelters, and Rural Area Veterinary Services through the humane society. Since 2010 Dr. Thomas has also been one of the consulting veterinarians for the Belize Zoo. There she takes along and teaches veterinary students from Ross University and, more recently, Midwestern University. While Dr. Thomas enjoys working with all types of exotic pets, exotic companion mammals and pocket pets have a special place in her heart. Along with her passion for veterinary medicine, her interests include wildlife conservation and teaching. Her hobbies include traveling with her husband, hosting foreign exchange students in their home, playing with her many animals, writing, dancing, hiking, camping, and painting.
